The California Department of Justice maintains and publishes crime and arrest data for Riverside County. Riverside County recorded 7,308 violent crimes, 61,826 property crimes, and 229 cases of arson in 2017. Compared to 2016 figures, these figures show that extreme and the property crime rates fell by 1.9% and 5.4% respectively while there was a 9.6% jump in arson rate. Aggravated assault was the most prevalent violent crime in the county, with 4,451 reported cases. The robbery came second with 2,226 incidents while there were 81 homicides and 550 rapes.
