What are Perris Public Records?

According to the California Public Records Act (CPRA), the City of Perris public records consist of any writing that contains information about the conduct of government business generated, owned, used, or maintained by any state or local agency. Records may exist as handwritten, printed, photocopied, typewritten, photographed, or any other means of recorded information. A public record may appear in any physical form or characteristics that include letters, words, books, maps, pictures, sounds, graphs, symbols, and more.

Nevertheless, the CPRA permits public agencies to restrict certain records from public view as established by a statute or court order. The whole or parts of the documents may be restricted from public search. Some of the reasons a record may be exempt from the City of Perris public records search include:

  • Documents revealing personal details that may constitute an unnecessary invasion of privacy e.g. medical records, financial history, and more.
  • Documents revealing trade secrets that may give others a competitive edge.
  • Information obtained due to attorney-client privilege.
  • Information about the private lives of government officials.
  • Information that may reveal test questions, scoring templates, or any form of exam data used for academic or employment purposes.
  • Documents that may be protected by federal or state laws as well as court orders.
  • Documents revealing details of an ongoing or pending investigation.
  • Documents that if revealed may jeopardize the safety of parties involved.

Public city records may also be accessible from third-party websites. Record seekers may either opt to use these non-governmental platforms to search for a specific record or multiple city records. However, users will need to provide enough information to assist with the search such as:

  • The address of the requestor
  • A case number or file number (if known)
  • The location of the document or person involved
  • The name of the subject involved in the record (not juvenile)
  • The last known or current address of the registrant

Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
