Placer County Crime Numbers

The California Department of Justice provides crime statistics for all the counties in the state through its Open Justice portal. Its records show that Placer County recorded 703 violent crimes and 6,969 property crimes in 2017. These figures represent a 6.5% jump in violent crime rate and a 3.3% dip in property crime rate between 2013 and 2017.

A breakdown of the county’s 2017 crime figures reveals that law enforcement agencies recorded 7 homicides, 107 rapes, 160 robberies, and 429 aggravated assaults. Reported incidences of property crimes include 1,146 burglaries, 658 motor vehicle thefts, 5,165 larceny-thefts, and 53 arsons. Between 2013 and 2017, homicide (250%), rape (98.1%), robbery (40.4%), motor vehicle theft (18.6%), larceny-theft (3.7%), and arson (15.2%) rates rose in Placer county. The five-year crime trend for the county also shows declining aggravated assault (12.4%) and burglary (31.5%) rates.

Placer County Criminal Records

The Department of Justice provides background checks for the counties of California. Individuals can only request their own criminal records while law enforcement agencies and employers can request background checks for residents of the state.

Placer County residents requesting for their criminal records must first download and print a Live Scan Form (also in Spanish). Check and write “Record Review” in the fields for Type of Application and Reason for Application respectively. The Sheriff’s Office charges a rolling fee of $20 for fingerprinting service. Note that DOJ/FBI fees will apply depending on the type of background check requested.

Placer County Police Reports

The Records Unit of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office provides incident reports for crimes that occurred within its jurisdiction as well as accident reports for the towns of Loomis and Colfax. The various police departments of the cities and towns of the county also provide incident and accident reports.

Placer County Sex Offender Information

The California Department of Justice maintains a database of all registered sex offenders living in the state. It also makes this database available online on California Megan’s Law website. To find registered sex offenders residing in Placer County, search the California Sex Offender Registry by name, street address, and zip code. To fund an inmate’s account, make a cash or credit/debit card deposit at the Smart Deposit kiosks in the jail lobbies. You can also drop a cashier’s check or mail order in the jail lobby drop-boxes or mail it to the jail. Make sure to make it payable to the inmate by providing their jail ID number. Amount on check or money must not exceed $100.

Placer County Vital Records

The Family Law Division of the Superior Court handles divorce cases in Placer County. Therefore, divorce records are maintained by the County Clerk’s Office. The fee for copies of these divorce records is $15 plus 50 cents per page. Include a check for copy fee in your mail application and make it payable to Placer Superior Court.

The Placer County Clerk-Recorder provides copies of birth, death, and marriage certificates on request. To order a public or confidential marriage certificate, start by completing an Application for Certified Copy of a Marriage Record. Include a signed statement sworn under penalty of perjury when requesting an Authorized Certified Copy in person. Notarize this sworn statement when submitting your request by mail. Are Property Records Open to the Public in Placer County?

Under the California Public Records Act, property records in Placer County are treated as public records. Therefore, anyone can contact the county's record custodian to inspect these records or receive copies.

Where and How to Find Property Records in Placer County?

The Placer County Clerk-Recorder's Office keeps records of all real properties located in Placer County. Interested persons may inspect property information online or contact the Recorder's Office to receive copies of desired property records. Each record costs $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. Certified records cost $4 for the first page and $1 for each subsequent page.

Individuals may submit mail, phone, email, and in-person requests. Payment is accepted via checks, money orders, and credit cards.
